Shavonne Wong, Singapore

Shavonne Wong is a new media artist in the NFT space today, but before that, she was a well-established fashion photographer. Her work has been featured in famous magazines, and she’s photographed celebrities. However, everything changed during the COVID pandemic. As a photographer, her job was deeply affected since strict health rules made it impossible to work outside or visit studios. This was a turning point for her.

We were commissioned by an art gallery to film a brand story video featuring Shavonne, where she shared the story of her transition from photographer to digital artist.

When filming, it’s crucial to pair the subject's story with meaningful scenes. As a digital artist, much of Shavonne’s work happens behind a computer, and showing the entire creation process wouldn’t work due to time and confidentiality concerns. To cover her story from start to finish, I included scenes of her surrounded by her published photos in magazines and books. This highlights how her photography background influences her current work as a digital artist. The techniques and lessons she learned over the years in fashion and portrait photography are now part of her digital art.

Brand story videos often serve as introductions—kind of like a handshake. Your audience needs to connect with you before deciding to take the next step. I interviewed Shavonne to understand her work and the impact she wanted to have on her audience with her love for emotions, connections, and love. This step is key in showing how you want to present yourself. Sometimes, when we try too hard to be someone we're not, influenced by external pressures or beliefs, our audience can sense that desperation to impress. The best approach is to simply be yourself—when you're authentic, everything flows naturally and effortlessly. People connect with realness, and that’s when the magic happens!
