What Makes a Night Worth Remembering?

Client: Knock On Wood, Jakarta
Service: Social Media, Content Library, Photos and Reels

Knock On Wood is a boutique bar in Jakarta with a personality that's hard to miss.

Aged wood interiors.

Thoughtfully mixed cocktails.

Good music.

And a social atmosphere built around having a good time.

But when you're in a city with no shortage of nightlife options, having a great space isn't always enough.

The question becomes:

How do you show someone what it feels like to be there before they've ever walked through the door?

That was something we wanted to explore together.

Starting With a Blank Canvas

When a brand starts creating content online, there's always a period of figuring things out.

You don't necessarily know what your audience will respond to.

You might think they'll love one type of content, only to find something completely unexpected performing better.

And that's okay.

I think social media is often treated as though there's a secret formula.

Post at the right time.

Use the right hook.

Follow the right trend.

But sometimes, especially when you're building something new, you simply need to experiment.

You need to try things.

See what happens.

Then learn from it.

That's exactly how we approached our time with Knock On Wood.

Five Days, Many Different Stories

For this project, I was given quite a bit of creative freedom, which meant we had the opportunity to explore.

Before the shoot, I spent time speaking with the founders, the bartenders, and the team to understand what made the place special.

We eventually planned several days of content, with the idea that we wouldn't try to decide everything upfront.

Instead, we would create a variety of stories and see what naturally resonated.

Some would work.

Some wouldn't.

And that's part of the process.

The goal wasn't to create one perfect video.

It was to build a library of content that gave us enough room to experiment, learn, and slowly understand what the
audience wanted to see.

Showing the Space

The first part was the space itself.

Knock On Wood has a very distinct atmosphere, and sometimes the simplest way to communicate that is to let people see it.

We created content that showcased the interiors and the experience of being there, while also giving the venue an opportunity to reach people looking for a space for events and gatherings.

The idea wasn't just:

"Here's our bar."

It was:

"Can you imagine yourself spending an evening here?"

The People Behind the Bar

Then there were the bartenders.

Because at the end of the day, a bar is never just about what's in the glass.

It's about the person making it.

The conversations.

The little interactions.

The personalities behind the counter.

We wanted to show more of that.

Bartenders mixing drinks.

Talking.

Laughing.

Interacting with each other.

Those moments helped the audience get to know the people behind the brand, rather than only seeing the products they were creating.

When the Night Comes Alive

Then there were the events.

DJs.

Themed nights.

People coming together.

The energy that only really exists once the lights go down and the music starts.

These were opportunities to show another side of Knock On Wood.

Not just what happens behind the bar, but what happens when people come together.

The hope was that someone watching from their phone could almost feel like they were there.

And maybe think:

"I want to be there next time."

Creating the "Wow" Moments

We also explored more cinematic content.

High-energy videos.

Talents.

Performers.

Visuals designed to stop someone mid-scroll.

These pieces were a little more polished and dramatic.

And that's important too.

Not every piece of content needs to tell the same story in the same way.

Sometimes you want to slow down and let people get to know you.

Sometimes you just want to make them stop scrolling.

The trick is knowing when to use each one.

Letting People Get to Know the Brand

One of my favourite things we explored was conversational content.

Instead of simply showing the cocktails, we gave the head bartender the space to talk.

About his experience.

His knowledge.

His perspective.

The things that make the drinks special.

Because sometimes, the best way to introduce someone to a place isn't through a beautifully edited video.

It's through a conversation.

It's through hearing someone who genuinely cares about what they do talk about it.

And that kind of content can build trust long before someone walks through the door.

Finding What Resonates

Throughout the process, the conversation continued.

What did the founders like?

What did they feel represented the brand well?

Which videos seemed to resonate with the audience?

What could we try differently next?

I think that's one of the most important parts of social media content creation.

You can't always know what will work before you make it.

Sometimes you have to put something out into the world and listen.

One video might take off.

Another might barely move.

Something you thought would perform incredibly well might surprise you.

And sometimes, the piece of content that gets the most views isn't necessarily the one that brings someone through the door.

That's why I don't think the goal should simply be to "go viral."

The more important question is:

Does this content make the right person want to know us better?

What Keeps People Coming Back?

At the end of the day, a beautiful venue can attract someone once.

A good cocktail can bring them back twice.

But what makes someone become a regular?

That's where the story comes in.

Because when every venue has beautiful interiors, carefully crafted cocktails, and professionally produced content, those things can start to blend together.

What people remember is the feeling.

The people they met.

The atmosphere.

The conversations.

The nights they had.

And that's what we wanted the content to reflect.

Not just what Knock On Wood looks like.

But what it feels like to be there.

Because maybe that's the real purpose of social media.

Not to constantly tell people what you sell.

But to give them a reason to care.

And hopefully, one day, a reason to walk through the door.
