Have you taken a portrait of yourself? (Capturing the little things in life)

Lilia Omietonska is the founder and photographer of Shades of Feminity, a studio specialising in female portraits. In this short film, we go behind the scenes to witness how Lilia conducts her photography sessions and the extra mile she goes to connect with her subjects, making them feel at ease and, most importantly, powerful.

As a photographer, I find that being able to produce quality work is never enough. We are all service providers, and our job is to ensure that our subjects or clients feel at ease during a photoshoot. With this in mind, I find myself more at peace—putting aside my differences, stooping to my subject’s level and understanding them.

In short, it is all about leaving an impression, making them feel great about themselves and having fun. Only then will the pictures taken be worth a thousand smiles. Lilia Omietonska is all about this: she adds value to her client’s lives through her love for photography.

I agree with her about taking a self-portrait of yourself. As a family photographer, my clients will drop me a message to thank me for the photos I have taken of their family. The main reason is that sometimes we are too caught up in our work or lives to forget to document the little things in our lives, which might lead to not having any remembrance of our loved ones or losing them due to health issues or complicated situations.

Always remember to capture the little things in your family before it’s too late.
